I have turned to academic research upon a career in the (renewable) energy industry, first as an engineer \/ technology innovation specialist for a North American utility (BC Hydro & Power), then as a consultant. My consulting activities have mostly consisted of working alongside First Nation communities in Canada to develop renewable microgrids. For a variety of reasons, it has been a fascinating but often perplexing experience, and my move to academia partly results from this experience and the many questions it brought up.
